Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using Protondexyou agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
Using Protondex
Protondex is a community compatibility index for running Steam games on Linux. Browsing and searching are open to everyone; submitting reports, comments, and votes requires an account, and you must be at least 16 years old to create one. You are responsible for the accuracy and lawfulness of everything you submit.
Your content and the license you grant
When you submit a report, comment, or other content, you grant Protondex a perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free, sublicensable license to store, display, reproduce, and redistribute that content as part of the public compatibility database, including in the periodic public data dumps Protondex publishes under the Open Database License (ODbL).
This license is necessary for the append-only history model: editing a report creates a new version, and previous versions remain visible. The license survives deletion of your account— when you delete your account your identity is detached from your reports, but the report records themselves remain part of the database. You represent that you have the right to grant this license and that your content does not infringe anyone else’s rights or break the law.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- submit unlawful, infringing, abusive, or deliberately misleading content;
- scrape, crawl, or automatically mass-submit content to Protondex;
- attempt to manipulate compatibility scores, votes, freshness, or rankings;
- disrupt, overload, or probe the service or its security.
First-time contributions may enter a review queue. Moderators may edit, curate, mark stale, supersede, or remove content, and we may suspend or terminate accounts that break these Terms. Moderation actions are recorded in an audit log.
Data sources
Some historical compatibility records on Protondex originate from ProtonDB’s publicly published data export under the ODbL v1.0, limited to a compatibility tier, a Linux compatibility path (Proton or native), and the original report timestamp. Protondex attributes this historical data to ProtonDB in its site-wide data attribution notice, on this page, and on each imported report’s own page, and publishes a periodic public data dump of its compatibility database under the ODbL. Protondex is an independent community project and is not affiliated with ProtonDB.
No affiliation
Protondex is an independent community compatibility index and is not affiliated with Valve, Steam, Proton, CodeWeavers, or ProtonDB.
Disclaimer of warranties
Compatibility information is community-sourced and provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind. Results depend on your specific hardware, drivers, and software versions. You rely on the information at your own discretion.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Protondex and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of the site or actions you take based on compatibility information.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above, and continuing to use Protondex after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas.
